Consistency is king

When I was in college, and working in the retail environment, I was offered a promotion to an Operations Manager position at the store where I worked. I was nervous to take over the position for two reasons:

  1. There were SO many tasks that this position had to take care of on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

  2. The person who did it before me was GREAT at it.

As it turned out, I was lucky to have training from the person who had the position before I did. He showed me how he organized the daily tasks that had to be done throughout a shift. He showed me which days the weekly tasks were best done on to be efficient. He helped me install reminders for the monthly and annual tasks so I would never miss a step.

He showed me that as long as I executed the game plan with consistency, then I could be consistent in the level of operations that I held the store to. This is a great moment in my life that I look back on and remind myself of the importance of it as I have become an entrepreneur in the last 8 months.

As entrepreneurs, we are often driven by our passion and ambition, but it's important to remember that our health and wellness play a crucial role in our success. With demanding schedules, long hours, and the stress of running a business, it can be easy to neglect our own well-being. However, neglecting our health can have a detrimental impact on both our personal and professional lives. The good news is that with the right strategies, we can build consistency in our health and wellness routine and reap the numerous benefits that come with it.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Start Small: Starting with small, achievable goals is key when it comes to building consistency. This can help you avoid burnout and frustration, and give you a sense of accomplishment. For example, begin by incorporating more water into your daily routine or taking a short walk during lunch breaks. Gradually add more healthy habits as you become more confident and comfortable with the changes. Small changes add up over time and can lead to big rewards.

  2. Set Realistic Expectations: It's important to set realistic expectations for yourself, as completely overhauling your life overnight is not a realistic goal. Building consistency takes time, effort, and patience, and it's okay to slip up occasionally. Remember, progress is the goal, not perfection. Be kind to yourself, celebrate your successes, and acknowledge your setbacks.

  3. Make it a Priority: Just as you prioritize work, make your health and wellness a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Set aside time each day or week to focus on self-care, whether it's through exercise, meditation, or simply taking a relaxing bath. Prioritizing your health and wellness will not only benefit you in the long run, but it will also make you a better entrepreneur.

  4. Create a Support System: Having a support system can make all the difference when it comes to building consistency. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who share your goals and will encourage and motivate you along the way. This could be a fitness buddy, a mentor, or a coach. Joining a support group or online community can also be a great way to connect with others and build a sense of community.

  5. Track Your Progress: Keeping track of your progress can help you stay motivated and on track. This can be through a journal, a digital tracker, or simply writing down your goals and progress each day. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may be, and use your progress to motivate you to continue making positive changes. Tracking your progress will also give you a sense of accountability, making it easier to stay committed to your goals.

  6. Reflect: Reflection is an important aspect of building consistency. Take time to reflect on your attempts at change and think about what worked well and what didn't. This can help you identify any barriers or challenges you faced, and make any necessary adjustments for future attempts. Reflection can also help you gain a better understanding of your motivations, allowing you to make meaningful and sustainable changes. Reflecting on your experiences can help you gain a better understanding of yourself, your habits, and your triggers, which can then inform future changes.

Consistency in your own health and wellness is essential for success as an entrepreneur. By taking care of yourself, you’ll be able to perform at your best, make better decisions, and have the energy and drive to achieve your goals. So start building those healthy habits today, and watch as your life and business thrive.

A few years back, I worked with an entrepreneur who was facing a common struggle - a lack of consistency when it came to health and wellness. He was in his mid-30s and despite being highly motivated and successful in his business, he was finding it challenging to prioritize his well-being. He was often overworked, with a demanding travel schedule, which left him feeling exhausted and lacking energy.

I worked closely with him and helped him put into practice some of the strategies I've mentioned in this blog post. We began with small changes, and he gradually started making his health and wellness a priority, dedicating time each day to self-care. He joined a wellness community and made new friends who shared his goals and offered support.

Through tracking his progress and self-reflection, he was able to identify any obstacles and make adjustments accordingly. He was amazed at the positive impact these changes had on his well-being, he felt revitalized, focused and motivated. This transformation carried over into his business and allowed him to perform better, make smarter decisions, and pursue new opportunities with enthusiasm.

This client's story highlights the value of consistency in health and wellness. By taking small steps and making his well-being a priority, he was able to achieve a profound transformation, not just physically but also in his business. It serves as a source of inspiration for all entrepreneurs who are trying to find consistency in their health and wellness. By following the strategies outlined in this blog post, you too can make positive changes in your life and succeed in both your personal and professional endeavors.
